Gredos and its birds

The Gredos mountains, situated at the limit between the harsher continental conditions to the North and the milder Mediterranean climate to the South, is one of the most interesting natural parks of Spain's central region of Castilla y León from a biological point of view
The Gredos mountains have been designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA) and is part of Red Natura 2000. It is the home of important landscape, cultural and biological values

Its wide diversity of birds, over 120 species between residents, summer and winter visitors, is the result of the diversity of ecosystems concentrated in a fairly small area as a result of climatic and altitudinal factors, and the great dissimetry between the northern and the southern slopes.

In general, these habitats are: rocky areas, high mountain pasture and scrubland, pine and oakwoods, "dehesas" (on the southern slope only), river banks and groves, and villages, each with their particular community of birds.
